★★★ Paper Heart

[Gino: 3.5, Twoshoes: 2.5]
Gino says: 'Now, here I have sort of a "Zen" or quantum-mechanical sort of review: I like to know very little about movies when I go into them. This one is presented as a documentary (not mocumentary) about a girl who doesn't feel like she'll ever experience falling in love and seems actually confused by the concept itself. So a director friend makes a documentary about this, and the girl interviews long-married couples, etc. In the process she starts a relationship with a well-known actor and this becomes weaved into the documentary itself.
Now, it becomes pretty clear that some of this is a bit contrived and they reshot some scenes, etc. But my basic assumption was that at it's core the story was true and this is a documentary. And I was OK with that. So right after watching it, I give it a 3.5 (means "recommended"), then we went to read about it.
Turns out that it is just a scripted "romantic comedy". So, as such, do I remain impressed by it that I was even considering that it was real? Or do I just feel duped? I think duped. Therefore, if you hadn't read this review, I would have recommended this movie to you, but since you have, I don't. The mind reels! If this is too much for you and you are worried about causality and space-time ruptures and whatnot, just consider that I gave it a 3.5, then read about the movie, then wrote the text of this review, and all will be well.
Still, this is not as bad as when two people dear to me went to see "The Blair Witch Project" and thought that was real. They were seriously bummed out by that experience (!) until they went home and saw the actress in it on Jay Leno that night.'
