He hasn't directed much, and hence this it feels like he's trying to get it all out: one of those "since I am totally in control here, let me spend 80 minutes talking about things I like" movies. E.g. Chicago, food, improv comedy, movies, jazz. The story is basically about an overweight low-level actor whose life is going nowhere [or slightly backwards, then a little forward]. Less of a "romantic comedy" than the box (with Sarah Silverman and Bonnie Hunt) would imply, and it isn't hilarious, but it's consistently and pleasantly humorous. Why do I recommend it then? I appreciated the humor, and it was totally relaxing in pace, jokes, and plot.'
