★★★ As You Like It (2006)
[Gino: 3.0]Gino says: 'So, honestly, you are not going to go ga-ga over this Kenneth Branagh production/adaption of the Bard's comedy, set a few centuries later than the play and in Japan for some (presumably budgetary) reason. But if you are someone who thinks they might want to rent such a thing, I will say nothing to dissuade you. It was pleasant.
It is not really laugh-out-loud funny, but puts a smile on your face at times. Honesty, Hamlet is a bit funnier apart for the murdering and all. But "the players" are all quite good in this. And particularly, Bryce Dallas Howard as Rosalind is, I guess "scintillating" is the word.
Can someone tell me how Kevin Kline's character (Jaques) was supposed to fit into this play? He seems to be a Melancholy French philosopher/traveler.'
