Gino says: 'This is the Gus Van Sant film starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, America's first openly gay elected official. I have disliked any Gus Van Sant films I have seen so far. But this one was good. Perhaps more of a "everyone should see that" than a "I really enjoyed that" kinda film. But Penn deserved the oscar: he has to portray a regional accent, overlayed with gay "mannerisms" while keeping those from getting over-the-top, and at the same time do some actual acting as there is a substantial plot going on. Impressive. '
