★★★ Cassandra's Dream

Twinkletoes says: 'Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell star in this Woody Allen flick about 2 brothers with money problems. One a mechanic with gambling problems, the other a worker at their parents' restaurant who has dreams of making it big in real estate. One day their mysterious uncle pays a visit to make them an offer that will take care of all of their financial woes. I'm not sure what it was exactly but the whole thing seemed very unnatural. And that is saying a lot coming from a director who populates his films with people who largely act like no one I have ever encountered. I guess you could say the whole thing seemed more suited to the stage. Similar ground was covered to much greater success in the vastly superior Crimes and Misdemeanors and the recent Match Point. The former film benifitted from its large cast and comic relief to lighten the proceedings. The latter was far more clever and polished. Overall not an awful film by any means, just a very minor work from Allen.'
