★★★ Dark City
[Gino: 3.0 sp]Gino says: 'My review of this is tainted a bit, since I was coming down with something while watching it, and furthermore beginning to fall asleep. This movie [about a man who wakes up with amnesia to a scary existence controlled by mysterious beings] has a great sense of style. The villains in particular are mighty cool. The mysterious plot is enticing. My problems? First it has a cast of protagonists who I don't particularly like: Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, and William Hurt. If you were to swap out those guys with actors I like, I would probably have recommended this. Secondly, [mild spoiler] after all this nice gradual revealing of what is going on and stylistic setup, everything wraps itself up pretty quickly, and in a very special-effects-heavy way. Still, this is almost a recommendation, because it is a pretty unique movie.'

Oh, and I was here reviewing the director's cut! --Gino
What's your issue with Jennifer Connely?
Her acting often seems very "sedate" to me, whether appropriate or not. That's OK, some people are naturally like that, I guess, and she is certainly capable of great acting, but it's a personal preference.
