★★★ The Darjeeling Limited

[Twinkletoes: 3.5 sp, Gino: 3.0, Twoshoes: 2.5]
Twinkletoes says: 'At this point in his career I think we all know whether or not we're going to enjoy a Wes Anderson film. From the meticulously constructed settings to the droll humor I personally love the asthetic he has created and this film contains all of those things that make a Wes Anderson film a Wes Anderson Film. I saw this thing in 2 sittings spread out over 3 weeks and I think that may have adversely affected my enjoyment of this film. The end result was a film that felt more weighty than any of his previous work and I almost felt like this should be his best film, but perhaps due to the conditions under which it was watched, it just didn't connect with me like some of his previous work. I think I may need to reassess this in the future at some point. And Gino, if you disliked The Life Aquatic for its lack of anything happening, I think you may feel the same way about this.'

Gino says: 'Well, I think Twinkletoes is right that one pretty much knows what to expect and how one will react to a Wes Anderson project. And I reacted the same as I usually do: I am drawn to the precise, giddy style of it all (photographic, musical), but in the end feel like it is all style and no substance. There is about 5 minutes of this film that almost strikes an emotional chord, but not quite.'
