★★★½ The Stranger (1946)
[Gino: 3.5]Gino says: 'An investigator from the War Crimes Commission travels to Connecticut to find an infamous Nazi. The investigator is Edward G. Robinson (yey) the infamous Nazi is the director, Orson Wells (double yey), and his wife is Loretta Young (meh.) While not quite "thrilling" by today's standards, this is somewhat suspenseful, and more to the point is fun if you pay attention to the inventive but unobtrusive use of the camera. And as will all Welles' films I have seen so far, has a climactic ending. One thing that really confused me was that the Nazi's among themselves called each other "comrade." Am I uneducated or did this film take place so soon after WWII that our conception of Nazis wasn't formed yet?'
