★★½ Cape Fear (1962)

[Gino: 2.5 sp]

Gino says: 'Well, I watched this in several sessions, so that probably removed some of the suspense. But even still, this wasn't very scary. I suppose if Scorcese liked it enough to remake it, there must be something too it, but I wasn't very impressed.

The basic story is [Robert Mitchum] is a ex-convict who has come back for revenge on [Gregory Peck], the prosecutor who put him away, and his family. Peck's acting is at best Charelton Heston-ish, and at worst a cardboard cut-out of a human being.

There is a point near the climax were it gets kinda good, where the setting is a houseboat at night. But it didn't pull it through for me. '
