½ The Nanny Diaries

[Twinkletoes: 0.5]

Twinkletoes says: 'Usually I can at the very least sit back and mindlessly enjoy these types of movies which are clearly not geared towards me. Not with this thing. I found it to be bland and boring to the point where it actively offended me. The story had no bite at all. All of the characters were mildly unlikable, which is worse then being despicable. And I'm sorry but Scarlett Johansson can not play bland and nerdy (see Scoop as well). Also, what was the point of somewhat cleverly not showing the father's face for the 1st half of the movie if you're going to suddenly reveal it and confuse us? I was left wondering who the heck this guy was for about 10 minutes. Maybe it could have worked if there was a big reveal at the end and it was someone like Brad Pitt or Gary Coleman. But it was Paul Giammati. It felt like they they forgot they had this idea half way through filming. Ultimately the whole thing felt like a film poorly and loosely adapted from a book that didn't lend itself to being a film.'
