★★★ Clueless
[Gino: 3.0 sp]Gino says: 'This 1995 film imagining of Jane Austin's "Emma" amongst Beverly Hills teenagers (led by Alicia Silverstone) is I believe directed by the director of "Look Who's Talking Too". All signs scream "Stay Away!" I watched it because I seemed to recall Twoshoes seeing it when it came out (perhaps with one of you) and saying it was good.
Well, I have to say that it was watchable. My only guesses to why it was not bad are: (1) minor characters are not all "throw away" and being based on source material that is presumably about complex relationships made it not predictable, and (2) it never veered from it's style into something more serious or more slapstick. That style being relentless current pop culturalisms and mannerisms of the day and place (which as an aside makes 12 years ago look like a very different time a place). (3) the main character confuses your brain, because she is a ditz who is not entirely a ditz, constantly analyzing life around her in the superficial way at least. Of course for some reason if you feel like watching a teen comendy of yore based on classic literature, I would recommend instead "Ten Things I Hate About You."'
