★★★½ Ratatouille

[Twinkletoes: 3.5]

Enjoyable but ultimately mildly disappointing given the reviews and Pixar’s track record. I think the problem here is that the best of these films all place us in fantastical worlds not quite like our own. Worlds where screams power a city of monsters, toys are alive, or superheroes exist and have been relegated to desk jobs. Here we have a rat in Paris who likes to cook. The whole thing feels just a little too grounded, especially when you consider that these rats really look like rats and the scenes with hundreds of them crawling around all at once look realistic enough to be mildly unsettling. Still, I can’t say I wasn’t entertained. If I could give this a 3.25 I would but the guy who runs this place is an oppressor.
