★★★ X-Men: The Last Stand

[Twinkletoes: 2.0, Gino: 3.5]

Twinkletoes says: "These things just keep getting worse. And yet I hope there is another one because I find the X-Men universe to be an interesting one and I feel like all 3 of these films have been missed opportunities."

Gino says: "Well, obviously, I liked it better than Twinkletoes. I thought it was quite an ambitious film: They tried to tackle a large societal topic (whether the mutants' mutations are part of their beings, "who they are", or something to be "cured". This, I thought they did pretty well. They didn't paint things black and white, pure good and evil, but left a lot of gray areas. Meanwhile, they tried to make a big special effects movie while retaining some quite moments among the X-men (who admittedly I never really remember much about from film to film.)"

I remember the film as being very by the numbers. I don't mean that so much in the plot, which I agree had promise. I mean it more in terms of its execution. I can remember thinking to myself "and here is where Wolverine will give a speech about..." and the next thing I knew that is EXACTLY what was happening. If I recall correctly the film seemed awfully short for its subject matter and focused too much on characters I just didn't care about (Halle Berry). Like I said, I felt it was another lost opportunity.

I agree that the film was too short: but I admired the ambition of what they were going for. The film might have been better if it were either 3 hours long or tried to do less. But I liked it better than most comic book movies (which I am sour on lately). I am looking forward to Hellboy II though).
