★★★ Street Fight
[Twinkletoes: 3.0]
This was a fascinating film about the 2002 mayoral race in Newark, NJ between the young idealistic Cory Booker and the longtime incumbant Sharpe James, who at times reminded me of John Street. The film shed a lot of light on some of the sadly misguided beliefs of the African American community, and some the ugliness that goes on in American politics these days. In the end the film was more an interesting story than it was a good film. Interestingly as I was writing this post and retrieving the IMDB link I discoverd that the film was released in 2005, just 1 year prior to Cory Booker's 2nd attempt at becoming the mayor of Newark, this time a successful attempt. I'm left wondering if perhaps what I just watched was just a shrewd political campiagn tool for the 2006 election.
