★★★½ Saturday Night Fever

[Gino: 3.5 (sp)]

Hmm. This film felt to me like a perfect mash-up of a great movie and a really bad movie. Visually, it felt really cheezy, but was this purposeful or just cheap production values? Acting: John Travolta really nailed his character, making him both over-the-top and subtle at the same time. A really good performance (something I may never say about Travolta again), but on the other hand some minor characters barely seemed like actors (and not in the good way). The film was deathly serious at times, genuinely (and wryly not slapticky) humorous at others, and the rest of the time, just a disco video.
