★★ Intermezzo (1936)
[Gino: 2.0]
This Sweedish film has Ingrid Bergman in it. It was remade three years later in Hollywood. It was fine, but lackluster to me. I think I find it hard to get into the problems of the European Leisure Class. I feel like I am watching Christopher Walken as "The Continental" from Saturday Night Live, only not funny. This is a generational thing, I am sure. Because I think my grandfather would have liked the film. I did see in it hints of Woody Allen's "Manhattan" [artistic man dating a woman half his age who has an opportunity to go off and study and make something of herself, marital infidelity, soul-searching] but non of its greatness.
