★★★★ The New World
[Gino: 4.0, TwoShoes: 4.0]
Gino says: "(Note: Twoshoes and I were both waffling between a 3.5 and a 4.0). Basically, if you have seen A Thin Red Line, and you liked it, you will probably like this one too (the current film is significantly shorter, however). I.e. you have to expect that the pace will be slow and pensive and the main characters will constantly be whispering poetry in their heads. If you are ok with that, you will be treated to gorgeous natural-light photography, effective music (especially powerful use of what I gather is the Wagner's Das Rheingold Overture which perhaps Tiny can comment on), and emersion in a new world, so to speak. In other words, beautiful impressionistic filmmaking."

Sorry, I don't have any knowledge of that piece by Wagner, so I can't comment.
