★★ The Man Who Laughs

[Gino: 2.0]

Gino says: 'This 1928 film, from the Victor Hugo book, is about an aristocrat disfigured to always wear a smile, who hides away as a 'circus' performer while searching for love and avoiding problems with the baroness. Or something like that. This was our Halloween movie this year, because it plays a little like classic horror though it is not. Anyway, not to write-off a classic, but I had a hard time staying awake. I did however admire the protagonist's acting challenge -- unable to move his mouth.'
