[Gino: 3.0, Tiny: 2.5] Gino says: 'I am being a little stingy here, could be 3.5. If you think you'll like it, you probably will, but then you'd have seen it already. First, I should say I saw this in IMAX 3D, even though my last experience with IMAX in a dome-shaped theater was miserable. But I figured, this is the one to see in 3D. This time, the "IMAX experience" was pretty good, but didn't add much to the moviegoing experience for me, and was maybe distracting more than anything. The 3D looked best in wide shots, but then, things are of course less "3D" the wider the shot, so what does that say? In other words in room-size shots, the 3D was mostly distracting.

But what about the movie itself? I enjoyed it. It's an undeniable spectacle. My mind didn't wander, but I think they missed some opportunities. One example: After a while, it kinda lost focus that the atrocities taking place were because of lust for resources, and instead shifted focus more to an obsessed stereotypical military type bad guy. Not a big deal, I know they wanted to make it more personal, but these little things are what make a great movie fall to a 3 star movie for me. '

Tiny says: 'Seeing this so long after its release may have raised my expectations too high. I also saw it in 2D, not 3D. My main complaint is that the story was very obvious and unsurprising – the many comparisons to Dances With Wolves are apt. I spent time waiting for the middle act to tie up and move on, and then the “corporations are greedy and evil” stuff was handled too simply, which may explain why that part of the plot sort of disappeared into “some guys just want to blow crap up.” The eye candy will not be denied, though.'
