★★★½ The Informant
[Tiny: 3.5]Tiny says: 'Pleasantly quirky movie. Based on a true story about an ADM employee who informs the government of some international price fixing. While that sounds serious (and boring), the movie instead takes up a fairly light tone, and we get deep inside this informant's unusual brain. The result is a mixture of comedy and black comedy. Many of the minor parts are played by comedians and comedic actors. Matt Damon does a very good job in the title role. I never enjoy Scott Bakula's acting very much, but he is fine here in a supporting role as an FBI man. The movie is set in the 90s but has an excellent, late 60's-ish soundtrack (Marvin Hamlisch), a weird, orange color palate, and some visuals that feel more early 80s than mid 90s. Steven Soderbergh is responsible for this really odd combination of tone, colors, and sounds, and it works.'
