★★★½ Forbidden Lie$

[Twinkletoes: 3.5]

Twinkletoes says: 'This is a documentary about Norma Khouri who in 2003 released a book called Forbidden Love, which she claimed to be the true story about a close friend who was murdered by her Muslim family in Jordan for being in a secret relationship with a man. Eventually allegations came out questioning the validity of the story and this film covers the controversy as well as Khouri's attempts to prove her story's truthfulness. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into too much detail. I'll say this. Khouri is a fascinating subject for a film but I found this to be lacking in focus at times. That being said, the story is riveting enough on its own to overcome those minor shortcomings and warrant a recommendation.'
