★★ Hamlet 2

[Twinkletoes: 1.0, Gino: 2.5]

Twinkletoes says:
'I can't quite put my finger on it, but I have always had a problem with films where the awfulness of something is central to the story and played for laughs. I did not like either "Producers", I did not like "Me and You and Everyone We Know", and I did not like this. Even when I try to remove that admitted bias from the equation this is a pretty dismal film. I'm not going to mention all of my issues with it, but one thing that drives me crazy is when a film does not adhere to the logic it creates. Here we have a failed actor turned high school theatre director. He's played here as a clueless idiot. But on the other hand he is fully aware of his failures and of how pathetic he is. You can't have it both ways. Imagine a self-aware Napolean Dynamite. It just doesn't work.'

Gino says: 'I can see what Twinkletoes is saying. I do not have the bias he mentioned. Even so, my 2.5 stars is generous: it is barely up to standards of something that should have been in a theater. Nevertheless, it is still somewhat funny and I enjoyed it at that low-level.'

G, I find not only your rating for this film astounding, but also the fact that you saw it.

Rating it: You do realize, that you are "astounded" by only a 1.5-star difference in our ratings for a movie??

Seeing it: In my head, I had remembered you giving it more like a 2.5, and since I had recorded in to the laptop and felt like watching something on the train that day, I watched it. E.g. Remembering you didn't like it, I would not have rented it.

Of course, thinking about it more, 1.5 stars would have been a lot of a difference if between a 3.0 and a 4.5 star movie. So, I think I agree with you, and the fact is: I just don't give a wide enough range of stars any more. So god help the next middling film that comes along!
