★★★ Smart People
[Gino: 3.0, Twoshoes: 3.5, Twinkletoes 3.0]Gino says: 'The actors in this film (like Denis Quaid as the main character -- a miserable professor who has to learn to be nicer to people) were the draw here, and they did a nice job. But the film was underwhelming. I also found the soundtrack annoying. Twoshoes liked it a bit better than I did, so this is a very mild recommendation. It didn't help that the main theme has been done better elsewhere (e.g. As Good As It Gets, though that was perhaps a less grounded film. And I even think they used the exact same house for the Pittsburg professor to live in as used in the excellent Wonderboys.)
But this is far from a terrible film, so if you are inclined to see it, I wouldn't disuade.'
Twinkletoes says: 'I am in awe at how completely my thoughts on this film align with Gino's. I too even found myself hating the music! I'll add this. It felt to me that much was left on the cutting room floor, particularly concerning the son.'
