★★★½ Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
[Gino: 4.0, Twoshoes: 3.0]Gino says: 'I really enjoyed this film about two Chinese youths' re-education during the Cultural Revolution, and their relationship with the peasants and the titular seamstress. The scenery was beautiful and the acting pleasant. The fact that the area was later drowned by the Three Gorges dam project added some melancholy and poignancy to the story. Twoshoes, liked it less, but mostly because she had read and really liked the book, so you know how that is: you never get the same breath or depth from a film compared to a book.'
