★★★★ The Out of Towners (1970)
[Gino: 4.0 sp]Gino says: 'This film is about a man and his wife on a trip from the Ohio to NYC, where he has a job interview at 9AM the next day. Relentless problems ensue. It's a Niel Simon story, and is played by Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis. Lemmon is his usual greatness.
Essentially, this is an hour and a half watching an indignant, dyspeptic, irate, and litigious Jack Lemmon having horrible things happen to him and his wife. Which is really great. I might have liked it more than most because I am the kind of person who just can't relax on a trip until we've gotten to our destination and are checked into our hotel room -- the entire crux of this film. My only complaints are that it actually made me tired watching the ordeal, and that Sandy Dennis seemed to be doing a New York accent to me, not Midwestern? '
