★★★ General Idi Amin Dada

[Twinkletoes: 3.0]

This film is a documentary about Idi Amin made in 1974 while he was still in power. There is very little narration as the film is basically 90 minutes of Idi Amin posturing for the cameras. I don't disagree with the director's decision to just let Amin do his thing, as the footage speaks for itself.

Unfortunately, I think time has not been kind this film. What I took away from it was that Idi Amin is a comically deluded man. While I think the intent was to make Amin look like a pompous fool, my lack of knowledge and the passage of time took a lot of the edge off of a man who was a pretty ruthless dictator. As a result, I didn't feel any connection to this film, and it was basically the story of an idiot.
