★★★½ Flags of Our Fathers
[Gino: 3.0, TwoShoes: 3.5]
Gino says: "Really, we only rented this because we wanted to see "Letters From Iwo Jima" and thought we should see this first. I found it solid, but in the end, not terribly interesting. It will soon be forgotten. I think its main message that soldiers may go "over there" for their country, but any acts they take there that make them "heroes" are done to stay alive and to help their buddies, is not a new lesson anymore. About the battle scenes, I will say that the special effects are the best I have ever seen. Perhaps because it is not a battle involving giant oliphants (return of the king) but historic military hardware, it looks amazingly realistic. Some credit to the effects and photography people is due."
