★★★★ Gangs of New York
[Gino: 3.5, Twinkletoes: 4.0]
Twinkletoes says: "Fine film. I went into the film thinking it would be a 3 hour bore and was pleasantly surprised. Not once did I feel anxious for the movie to end. I think this is largely due to the fact that the film is set in a time and place in history that I knew absolutely nothing about. Daniel Day Lewis is just awesome as are the rest of the supporting characters. Diaz and Leo are the two main characters and they are probably the least interesting, but I don't think it really hurts the film. In fact I think it helps a film that otehrwise would have been too overwhelmed with colorful charcters. For you prudes out there, the violence is frequent but it is sort of Braveheart-like violence (masses of people fighting) only less of it and not as explicit."
Gino says: "I took a half star off because it's not really fun to watch the depravity of humans on so many levels for several hours. But, even on the laptop, I could tell this would have looked real good on the big screen. And watching Daniel Day Lewis was a joy. DiCaprio was fine. Before watching this, I though that Cameron Diaz was going to be annoying and distracting. After watching it, I felt that Cameron Diaz was annoying and distracting. I also enjoyed the minor characters. All in all a good film."
