★★★ Bride of Frankenstein

[Gino: 2.5, TwoShoes: 3.0]

Gino says:
"First, I must say this was far, far less B-movie-ish than I anticipated. The sets were elaborate and professional-looking. On the other hand, it is only a few years before special effects epics like The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind, etc., so I should have expected better. If it had been the least bit scary, I would have given it a better rating. You do genuinely feel for the monster at times, and perhaps if I weren't so familiar with the scenes beforehand I would have been moved more. It made me think two things about other films: (1) Young Frankenstein (which I only mildly like) really was maticulous in recreating the characters and locations, etc. and (2) the Kenneth Branagh film from 1994 does a nice job of keeping the feel/themes of the original(s) but updating the horror for modern viewers. So unless you want to see a classic, watch that one instead."
