½ Waiting
[Twinkletoes: 0.5]
I rented this film for 2 basic reasons. First, the idea of a comedy about waiting tables seemed promising. Second, I thought it was a Dane Cook vehicle. I am not a Dane Cook fan and to be honest, the few times I've seen him on TV I found him to be painfully unfunny. Still, I keep reading about how he's the greatest thing in comedy today and how HBO has given him a deal to do a bunch of shows for them, including a series. So I figured I'd try to figure out what all the fuss is about. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) Dane Cook has a very small part in which he is only slightly less unfunny than he usually is.
I like to think I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to comedy. Make me smile and your film probably gets at least a 2.5 from me but this thing was just unwatchable. This is the kind of film only Bruce Hamburg could enjoy. I can't believe I've wasted this many words on this thing but I feel it must be said that this film also has the retarded "13 year old" from MTV, Andy Milonokis, who is probably the only person working in comedy today that I find less funny than Dane Cook. Please note that I don't consider Pauly Shore or Carrot Top to be actively working.
I forgot to mention, the half star is for the guy who plays the Mac in the new Apple commercials who was the main charcater in the film. He's likable and plays the part of an aimless young adult well.

I just love the idea that maybe someone in Malaysia will be swayed whether or not to see this film based on the Bruce Hamberg reference!
